Technology Minister, Fayval Williams, is calling on government agencies to embrace the soon to be created Information and Communication Technology Authority, ICTA.
She says the authority will coordinate all ICT functions of the government and supplant the free for all system which currently exists.
Legislation to establish the Authority and transfer the functions of e- Gov Jamaica and the office of the Chief Information Officer into the new entity was passed in Parliament earlier this year.
The new body has a mandate to improve the use of technology by developing a sustainable digital agenda across Government.
Mrs. Williams says this will drive greater efficiency in the public sector
The new body corporate is also to have oversight of ICT divisions in all public agencies.
Mrs. Williams says employees need not fear as the authority will not supplant individual ICT divisions in each agency.
However, she says they’ll be required to report to the authority on all ICT related issues.
