Por: Facilitador August 04, 2016

The forum is designed to be informal, inclusive and non-hierarchical being open to Government policy makers, regulators, public and private sector organisations.

The Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) cordially invites you to the 12 th Caribbean Internet Governance Forum (CIGF), which will take place from the 10th to 12th August, 2016, at the Radisson Hotel in Belize City, Belize.

The CIGF is historic in that it was the first regional Internet Governance Forum in the world to be established as a result of the work of the World Summit of the Information Society (WSIS) Geneva 2003 -Tunis 2005.

The CIGF is a regional, multi-stakeholder forum initiated by the CTU and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat in 2005 to coordinate a regional approach to Internet Governance for the WSIS.

The forum has since met annually and the primary products of its work have been the formulation of a Caribbean Internet Governance Policy Framework (first issued in 2009 with Issue 2.0 in 2013), the proliferation of Internet exchange points and capacity building in IG Principles across the Caribbean. The forum is designed to be informal, inclusive and non-hierarchical being open to Government policy makers, regulators, public and private sector organisations, telecommunications operators, Internet service providers, academic institutions, Internet stakeholders and civil society Internet users.

The 12th CIGF will focus on advancing the current thrust, announced at the 10th CIGF, to enhance Internet governance expertise and capacity at the national level in the Caribbean through the development of local multi-stakeholder structures, groups, fora or teams as appropriate. The 12th CIGF will also address areas of high priority for further policy development and conclude the work of identifying appropriate amendments for incorporation into the next revision of the policy framework (Issue 3.0) scheduled for this year.
