National Security Minister, Robert Montague, says Jamaicans will be able to submit online applications for passports this year.
Montague says the move is part of efforts to boost the national security infrastructure of the island and to foster more efficient security checks.
He made the disclosure during a tour of the Constant Spring Road offices of the Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency, yesterday.
The national security minister says discussions are ongoing with vendors to facilitate the e-passport system.
He says the introduction of the new system is expected to increase operational efficiency and reduce wait times at the island’s major airports.
