Caribbean Community (CARICOM) consumers now have access to the CARREX Online Electronic Platform and the live public portal for providing alerts on dangerous non-foods consumer goods on the markets in all fifteen CARICOM Member States. The platform which went live recently can be accessed via www.carrex.caricom.org

Antigua, the island of 365 beaches, was the location of the ICT Week and Symposium. The Government of Antigua and Barbuda, in collaboration with the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU), hosted this event from 20th – 24th March 2017, the theme of which was ICT – Driving 21st Century Intelligent Services.
OECS ICT Strategy Group Meeting
OECS Member States are taking steps to fully embrace the digital economy. The OECS Commission has formed a special ICT Strategy Group to consider the region’s options for using technology more effectively to facilitate its integration agenda. The group is being chaired by the OECS Director General, Dr. Didacus Jules.
Ministers endorse ICT Single Space roadmap
The endorsement was made at a Special Meeting of the Council for Trade and Economic Development held in Barbados on Wednesday, 21 September, 2016. The Hon. Guy Joseph, Minister of Economic Development, Housing, Urban renewal, Transport and Civil Aviation of Saint Lucia chaired the Meeting.
ECLAC calls for creation of regional digital market in the Caribbean
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has called for the creation of a regional digital market, saying that it will contribute to development with equality and environmental sustainability in the region.
The government will be introducing the first phase of an electronic text book system within the next school year, as it seeks to eliminate the costs associated with purchasing the hard copies.
ICTs and people with disabilities: a Caribbean workshop
The CTO champions the use of ICTs by people with disabilities. To this end, it convened a Commonwealth Summit in 2012 to find ways of turning rhetoric into reality with respect to this agenda. As part of the follow up, the CTO is working collaboratively with local partners and other international organisations to raise awareness of the issues and help our member countries take practical action so that people with disabilities are indeed empowered through the use of ICTs.

Antigua & Barbuda ICT Minister
Hon. Melford Walter Nicholas is the new Antigua & Barbuda Minister of Information, Broadcasting, Telecommunications & Information Technology. He was born and raised in St. Johnston’s Village. He has worked at the APUA Telephone Central Office for 23 years and has almost three decades’ worth of experience in business management and industrial relations.

Do away with the paper
The Organization of American States (OAS) recently concluded an initiative to help its six OECS member countries scan some 2.5 million birth certificates dating back to the late 1800s. With an investment of half a million dollars, it purchased equipment, developed software and trained data entry clerks in Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
